The benefits of having a grain mill in Australia
Providing your grain is used with 24 hours of milling you’ll avoid all of the issues below:
- The unsaturated fats in the wheat germ begin to oxidise and turn rancid.
- Many Vitamins (Vitamin A, B2 (riboflavin), B6, B12 and folic acid) will be destroyed by ultraviolet light
- Beneficial enzymes start working and play themselves out.
- Vitamin E, which is an antioxidant that helps to protect flour from oxidation, deteriorates once milled, especially if the conditions become moist.

RAYMOND BUDGE –
Great grinder but we did have problems initially grinding rye grain which glued up the outlet. The locking screw (6 on the above diagram) on the side needs to be a much bigger knob. We have to tighten with pliers to stop the hopper from turning and altering the coarseness setting. We are impressed with the output and the flow using whole wheat.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review and for sharing your experience. We’re happy to hear you’re impressed with the grinder’s performance on whole wheat. We appreciate your feedback on the rye grain and the locking screw. Rye can be particularly gummy due to its moisture and starch content, but we understand how frustrating that can be and will definitely pass your suggestion on to the manufacturer.
